How does mobile phone comparison work?

There’s a huge range of phones, network providers and contracts to choose from. By comparing phone deals, you can narrow down your results by selecting the brand, network and monthly costs that are important to you.

You also have an option to filter contract length, and data allowance which really tailors the results to your needs.

Once you find a deal that suits your needs, just click the link and you'll be taken to the retailer’s website where you can confirm the details before securely checking out.

What are the latest mobile phones to compare?

Uswitch compares deals on all the latest handsets from Samsung, Apple, Google and other manufacturers. The easiest and quickest way to find a specific phone is to use their search function. Start typing the name of the phone and you'll see suggestions matching what you’ve entered. You can then use the monthly costs, upfront costs, data, network, contract length and other filters to narrow down your search.

How do I get a cheap mobile phone deal?

The best way to find a deal that suits you is to compare networks and phone packages. Being flexible on the network you choose massively opens up your options but make sure to check the coverage for your area before committing to a deal. Here’s some other ways to save money:

  • Avoid cancellation fees by making sure your current phone contract has ended before switching.

  • Find out how much data you actually need with our data usage calculator. Most networks will give you a rundown of how much data and how many minutes and texts you used, which should also give you a good idea.

  • Avoid extra charges by planning ahead. If you think you'll need more data or if you regularly make international calls, you may want to add that to your tariff.

  • Trade in or sell your old handset and use the money to either pay for any upfront costs or to help with the monthly payments.
  • Pay more upfront to reduce your monthly payments costs.

  • Check the phone contract length because a lower monthly cost over a long contract length could end up costing you more than a higher monthly cost over a short contract length.

  • Take control of your spending with a pay as you go mobile deal which doesn't tie you into a long-term contract and lets you choose how much to spend month-by-month.

What’s the difference between pay-monthly phone contracts and SIM only deals?

Pay-monthly phone contracts involve paying a fixed amount every month for a new phone and a tariff. This monthly payment will cover the cost of the phone, which is paid in instalments. It also covers your monthly allowance of data, phone calls and texts. These contracts usually last between 12 and 36 months.

SIM only deals include a new SIM card and contract, but not a phone. Deals range from rolling 1-month contracts to a fixed 24-month contract. This could be an option if you already have a phone and don't want a new one. If that's the case, you don't need to compare mobile phone deals, just SIM only deals. SIM only deals are generally cheaper than pay-monthly deals as you’re not repaying the cost of a handset.

How do I switch mobile phone providers?

  • First off you’ll need to check if you’re still in contract with your current provider. Most providers have an app where you can log on to check your contract details.
  • If your contract is finished, switching should be straightforward. But if you still have some time left on your current contract, you may be charged to get out early.
  • Request a code by text - to keep your existing number, text 'PAC' to 65075 or, if you want a new one, 'STAC' to 75075.
  • Your provider will send you a code with information on any exit penalties, outstanding costs or credit balances.
  • Give that switching code to your new provider within 30 days to be switched to your new network within one working day.

You no longer have to call up your existing provider to switch. That means you don't have to go through the hassle of salespeople persuading you to stay. Now, all it takes is a text. However if you prefer, you can still switch by calling your provider.

Can I get a mobile phone deal if I have bad credit?

It depends on the provider, but most will do a hard credit check when you take out a new mobile phone contract, which will show on your credit report.

There's no set credit score needed to get a mobile phone, but each network will deal with it differently.

Depending on the network provider, you may be rejected for a phone contract if you have a bad credit score.

What is 5G and should I consider it when I compare mobile phone deals?

5G is the next generation of mobile internet connection and is a step-up from 4G – it offers faster download and upload speeds.

It also boasts great capacity, which means thousands of devices in a small area can be connected at the same time.

You can compare 5G mobile phone deals with most leading providers through our partner, Uswitch.
